Creative Garden Design Scheme Solicitation
The 10th China (Wuhan) International Garden Expo
The China International Garden Expo (hereinafter referred to briefly as “Garden Expo”) is a key gathering in the Chinese garden and landscape field, held by MOHURD (the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China) and the principle government of the host city. The previous nine Garden Expos were held chronologically in Dalian, Nanjing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Jinan, Chongqing and Beijing.
The 10th China International Garden Expo is to be held in Wuhan, from September, 2015 to April 2016, by MOHURD and The People’s Government of Hubei Province, and organized by the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, the Chinese Association of Parks, the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Hubei Province, and the People’s Government of Wuhan City.
The theme of the 10th Garden Expo this year is “Eco-Expo, Green Life”. Not divided according to geographic regions, the exhibition park will be arranged based on the following themes: “Landscape and Eco-Techniques”, “Landscape and Humanistic Arts”, “Landscape and Happy Life”.
In order to express the theme and aim of the Garden Expo, and attract new international ideas and talent into the field, a special creative garden area is reserved in the Expo Park, to accommodate a global call for design schemes.
I. Organizers
“The Creative Garden Organization Office of the 10th China International Garden Expo” was established specially for the operation and interpretation of the relevant work. (N.B.: the Wuhan Preparatory Work Leading Group Office of the 10th China International Garden Expo reserves the right of final selection.)
II. Content and Theme
Creative Garden Exhibition Scheme of the 10th China International Garden Expo.
With the design themes of: “Landscape and Eco-Techniques”, “Landscape and Humanistic Arts”, “Landscape and Happy Life”, topics related to the regeneration and restoration of of refuse landfills are most encouraged.
III. Registration
Please download the registration material from the official website of Chinese Landscape Architecture(www.chla.com.cn). Design related information will be sent via email to potential applicants.
IV. Design Requirements
1. The exhibition size for selected designers will be 1000-2000 square meters. Selected designs will be produced in designated areas in the exhibition park.
2. The designs are expected to make full use of the environmental conditions, express the theme of both the Garden Expo and the solicitation, and represent the designers’ style and capabilites.
3. The spatial compositions and design elements are encouraged to be designed independently, innovatively and freely.
4. The project cost for each scheme should be controlled to less than 800 RMB per square meter.
V. Submission Requirements
1. Participants shall provide registration materials (Basic information about the participants (individual or group), contact information, identification, major achievements and works) to designated local registration locations before June 10th, 2014.
2. Participants shall provide design schemes of the exhibition park before June 10th, 2014, including renderings, master plans, important landscape node materials, design statements, et cetera.
VI. Scheme Review and Awards
1. Preliminary assessment of schemes for each region is scheduled to be started at June 10th, 2014.
2. In the second round of judging, 20 international schemes will be assessed by a committee of experts and selected for 3 different award levels:
3 winners of the first prize, each of whom will be awarded 80,000 RMB;
6 winners of the second prize, each of whom will be awarded 50,000 RMB;
11 winners of the third prize, each of whom will be awarded 20,000 RMB.
3. Works of the first and second prize winners will be constructed in the creative garden area of the 10th China International Garden Expo. Designers will retain the right of authorship. The names of statements of the designers will be properly displayed after construction.
VII. Other Regulations
1. The participant designers shall ensure the independence of their work during the creation. Copyright Infringement of other group or individual is forbidden. Otherwise, the designer shall assume complete legal responsibility.
2. Participants should acknowledge that work submitted to the host is regarded as a voluntary assignment of copyrighted work. Designers will retain the right of authorship, and the host is entitled to the right of any commercial activities related to the participants’ work (including but not limited to two-dimensional, three-dimensional and electronic form), for purposes such as exhibition, development, application, revision, authorization, permission and protection.
3. Submitted works will not be returned to the participants. Therefore it is suggested that copies and/or documentation of all submitted work is reserved accordingly.
4. The currency of the awarded prizes mentioned in this announcement is RMB, and the amounts mentioned in this announcement do not include taxes, which the awarded participants should pay for the aforesaid prizes, according to the laws and regulations of relevant countries and regions.
